Animals fact
An octopus has three hearts.
The details
Two hearts pump blood through the gills, and the third pumps it around the rest of the body. The main heart actually stops beating while the octopus swims, which is one reason octopuses prefer crawling. Their blood is blue because it uses a copper-based protein, hemocyanin, to carry oxygen.
